In his national address marking 44 years of independence, Prime Minister Gaston Browne declared that Antigua and Barbuda’s economy continues to lead the region in recovery and growth.

“Our per-capita income now exceeds US $60,000 — the highest in the OECS and among the highest in CARICOM,” stated Browne, reinforcing remarks he made earlier in the year.

He referenced over US $1 billion in private-sector investment during his government’s tenure and reiterated that “the private sector has retained this confidence … by further investment” as noted in his New Year’s Day address.

Key growth drivers identified include tourism, construction, digital enterprise and agriculture. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Browne welcomed the fact that Antigua and Barbuda is advancing towards membership of the Latin American and Caribbean Development Bank (CAF), noting: “We are certainly very happy to become an official shareholder of the Bank… this will be a very fruitful relationship to help us build capacity.”

He concluded: “This progress is not abstract; it means bread on the table, jobs for our youth, and security for families.”
