The Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries has launched its annual Reading Month observance for October, highlighting the importance of literacy and the power of books in shaping a creative and informed society.

The month-long celebration is being coordinated through the School Library Services under the theme Unlock Your Possibilities: Read, Imagine, Grow.” The theme encourages students, educators, parents, and citizens to embrace reading as a gateway to knowledge, imagination, and personal growth.

A series of activities will be held in schools and libraries across the country, including reading challenges, storytelling sessions, book fairs, author visits, and community outreach events. Organizers say the initiatives are designed to cultivate a culture of reading while reinforcing its role in lifelong learning.

According to the Education Officer of School Library Services, reading is not only essential for academic success but also a pathway to self-discovery and empowerment. “Every page read opens a door to new ideas and experiences,” the officer noted, adding that readers are better able to imagine a brighter future and grow into confident, informed citizens.

The Ministry is encouraging the public to join in the observance by reading daily, supporting library programmes, and sharing the joy of books within their communities.
