Prime Minister Gaston Browne has written to U.S. President Donald J. Trump urging renewed diplomatic engagement with Venezuela amid an escalating military presence in Caribbean waters.
The Prime Minister highlighted the region’s longstanding identity as a Zone of Peace and warned that tensions could harm tourism-dependent economies.
“A hint of armed confrontation in our waters reverberates instantly through hotel bookings, airlines, foreign investment, and the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of families,” Browne stated.
He encouraged President Trump to pursue dialogue, noting that President Maduro has signaled openness to talks. Antigua and Barbuda stands ready to support efforts that safeguard regional stability.
Cabinet also congratulated Sir Ronald Sanders, Ambassador to the U.S. and Permanent Representative to the OAS, on receiving a Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) from the University of Guyana.
The university described him as “a transformative figure in diplomacy, business, and academia.” This recognition joins his honorary doctorate from UWI and crowns a distinguished five-decade career advocating for Caribbean interests globally.
