In a significant step toward healthcare equity, the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved the establishment of a dedicated Dental and Eye Clinic in Codrington.
For decades, Barbudans have had to travel to Antigua for procedures such as fillings, extractions, and vision testing. The new clinic—part of the National Health Strategic Plan (2021–2025)—will eliminate these long-standing access barriers.
The facility will be integrated within or near the Barbuda Health Centre and staffed initially by rotating dental surgeons and ophthalmologists from Antigua.
Cabinet also approved:
- Construction of a helipad near the Hanna Thomas Hospital to enhance emergency evacuation,
- Expansion of the hospital’s medical laboratory, and
- Establishment of a blood bank for the island.
Preparatory works are expected to begin within three months.
