The Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment, The Honourable Charles Fernandez, has outlined the Government’s strategic outlook for Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism sector in 2026, highlighting priorities focused on sustainable development, strategic infrastructure investment, and people-first growth.
In a video message, the Minister emphasized that the objective is not simply expansion, but smart, balanced, and inclusive development.
“Our focus for 2026 is not simply expansion, but smart, balanced and inclusive development; growth that protects our natural environment, strengthens our communities, and delivers long-term value for the people of Antigua and Barbuda.”
Key priorities for 2026 include continued hotel and resort development, with projects such as the Marriott Resort, Moon Gate Development, Nikki Beach Resort and Spa, and the Nobu Hotel enhancing capacity, quality, and international brand presence.
Cruise tourism remains a key pillar, supported by the opening of the new cruise terminal, positioning the destination to welcome increased calls while expanding opportunities for local businesses and creatives.
Air access continues to underpin tourism growth, with the US$50 million runway rehabilitation project at the V. C. Bird International Airport scheduled for completion in September 2026. Sustainability, MICE tourism, and workforce development also remain core priorities, reinforcing Antigua and Barbuda’s position as a competitive, resilient, and people-focused destination.
The Minister also provided reassurance to tourism stakeholders that Antigua and Barbuda remains open for business and open to the world.
He thanked tourism stakeholders for their partnership and dedication throughout 2025, and noted that working together, the country will continue to build a tourism sector that is sustainable, inclusive, and people focused.
