More than EC$28.7 million in retroactive salary payments have been made to public servants, as part of efforts to settle outstanding obligations dating back to 2018.

A report presented to Cabinet by the Treasury Department on Wednesday outlined payments made across multiple categories, including established and non-established workers, weekly-paid employees, and pensioners.

The initiative forms part of a broader push toward fiscal accountability, a key issue across Caribbean governments that have historically grappled with wage arrears and delayed public sector payments.

Officials indicated that while significant progress has been made, administrative challenges, such as incomplete records and high volumes of payment queries, have slowed final disbursements. Measures including a dedicated Help Desk and stricter data protocols have been introduced to accelerate the process.

The Government has set a target of completing all outstanding payments by the end of March 2026.
