The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda, chaired by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, has reiterated its 2023 policy governing government motor vehicle purchases and procurement procedures for car dealerships on the island.

Cabinet, on Wednesday, reminded that all requests for vehicles intended for government use must be supported by an official Decision of Cabinet expressly authorizing such purchases. Officials stressed that any vehicle delivered or consigned to the government without the appropriate legal authority will be deemed null and void, with the government accepting no liability for costs or charges incurred.

The policy further requires that, even with Cabinet authorization, all procurement requests must be processed by the designated purchasing authority. Payment vouchers must also be prepared and approved before any vehicle delivery is made.

According to the Government, these measures apply to all suppliers and vendors of motor vehicles without exception, unless Cabinet grants express approval otherwise.

The reiterated directive is intended to ensure accountability, transparency, and proper financial oversight in government procurement practices.
