The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved the establishment of a National Art Gallery, marking a major step forward in the development of the country’s cultural sector.

The facility, to be named the Christopher Holder National Art Gallery of Antigua and Barbuda, will be housed in the historic former Catholic School building near Government House in St. John’s. The project has been made possible through a partnership involving the Halo Foundation Inc. and the Maria Holder Memorial Trust.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the initiative represents a significant investment in the creative industries and responds to longstanding calls for a dedicated space to showcase local art.

Restoration work on the building is expected to begin shortly, with completion targeted for October 2026. Once operational, the gallery will serve as a hub for artistic exhibition, education, and collaboration with regional and international partners.

Officials said the project is also expected to support cultural tourism and contribute to the development of a broader cultural district in the capital.
