Government has reaffirmed the provisions of the Labour Code relating to employment obligations during public holidays, emphasizing that workers assigned to essential services are required to report for duty when rostered.

The matter was discussed during last Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting as Ministers reviewed operational requirements across public services and reiterated the importance of maintaining continuity in essential national functions.

Cabinet noted that employees scheduled to work during public holidays are expected to fulfill their assigned duties in accordance with the Labour Code and established workplace schedules.

Ministers stressed that essential services remain critical to the functioning of the country and to the uninterrupted delivery of services to the public.

The Government stated that adherence to work schedules is necessary to maintain operational efficiency, continuity and public confidence in national institutions.

Cabinet also reviewed a technical report submitted by the Ministry of Works concerning the building occupied by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).

According to the assessment, the building has been deemed safe for occupancy and normal operations.

As a result, Cabinet advised that all employees attached to the ONDCP are expected to continue carrying out their daily functions within the existing work environment.

The Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe and suitable working conditions for public sector employees while maintaining the effective delivery of services across Antigua and Barbuda.
