Cabinet has approved the termination of a lease for lands at Sutherlands to facilitate a major low-income housing development.

The site, which includes parts occupied by the Clarevue Mental Hospital, has been identified as suitable for structured residential expansion.

The project will include affordable housing construction, regularization of informal settlements, and the integration of community infrastructure. Governments across the region have increasingly prioritized land use reform to address housing deficits and informal settlements.

Officials confirmed that coordination will take place to ensure continuity of healthcare services during any relocation of the hospital.
