Representatives of the international advocacy organisation Global Citizen have proposed partnering with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Commonwealth Secretariat to host a series of programmes alongside the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting scheduled for November 2026.

During a presentation to Cabinet, the organisation outlined plans to stage a “Global Citizen Now – Antigua and Barbuda” forum designed to complement the official CHOGM agenda.

The event would feature panel discussions, policy dialogues and fireside conversations involving heads of government, private sector leaders, philanthropists, youth representatives and civil society organisations.

Topics would focus on major global issues including climate action, youth opportunity, entrepreneurship, digital transformation and private sector innovation.

One of the centrepieces of the proposal is a “Digital Futures for Youth” initiative aimed at expanding access to digital and artificial intelligence skills for young people across Commonwealth countries.

The initiative seeks to support up to two million young people by 2030 and create employment pathways for at least 250,000 youth.

Global Citizen indicated that it intends to mobilise approximately US$50 million in funding from governments, philanthropic institutions and private sector partners to support the programme.

The proposal also includes a large-scale cultural event titled “Global Citizen Nights – Antigua and Barbuda,” featuring music performances and advocacy campaigns designed to engage young audiences.

Cabinet welcomed the presentation and noted that such partnerships could significantly enhance the international visibility of Antigua and Barbuda during its hosting of CHOGM.
