Cabinet has launched a comprehensive effort to improve workplace productivity and employee well-being across the public service by mandating upgraded standards for all government buildings.

Heads of departments have been instructed to ensure safe, healthy, and functional work environments, recognizing that productivity depends not just on staff performance but on the quality of facilities.

Cabinet approved a coordinated national assessment of all government buildings, to be carried out by the Ministry of Works in collaboration with the Department of Analytical Services and the DCA. The review will evaluate:

  • Structural integrity
  • Ventilation and air quality
  • Leaks and water damage
  • Mold growth
  • Health and safety systems

Findings will guide repairs, renovations, and modernization of ageing facilities.

In a major step toward institutionalizing safe infrastructure practices, Cabinet confirmed that a new national building code—featuring updated standards for air quality, ventilation, structural safety, and worker health—will be tabled in Parliament in the first quarter of 2026.
