The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has approved sweeping reforms to strengthen financial accountability across the public sector.
Following a submission by Sir Molwyn Joseph, Minister responsible for the Public Service, Cabinet has mandated that all Accounts Departments in ministries and statutory bodies must be staffed with qualified accounting professionals holding at least a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Preference will be given to holders of ACCA, CPA, or ICAN certification.
Staff lacking required qualifications will be reassigned to other roles.
The policy aims to improve internal controls, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and enhance the timeliness and accuracy of government financial reporting.
