The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority has launched the third annual Antigua and Barbuda Art Week (ABAW) Student Art Competition, inviting young artists to showcase their creativity under the theme “Life in Antigua and Barbuda.”

The competition, which runs until November 21, 2025, encourages students to depict scenes of daily island life, family traditions, cultural events, and the natural beauty of the twin-island nation. Entries will be accepted in three categories: ages 7–9, 10–12, and 13–17, with students working in painting, drawing, or mixed media.

Marketing Communications Manager and ABAW Committee member Maria Blackman said the competition highlights the importance of the arts in shaping the destination’s cultural story.

“The Student Art Competition serves as an important platform for us to engage with young creatives, nurture their talents, and give them the opportunity to shine. We look forward to seeing how students interpret this year’s theme,” Blackman said.

Committee lead Mauricia Frith noted that the young artists continue to impress each year.

“Every year, the participants surprise us with their originality and heart. We expect this year’s theme will spark even deeper reflections of who we are as a people, seen through the eyes of our young artists,” she said.

Entries will be judged by a panel of professional artists based in Antigua and Barbuda. Winning pieces will be announced during the “Rising Stars of Art” awards ceremony at V. C. Bird International Airport on November 27, and later displayed in the airport’s arrivals hall as part of the “Art and Fashion Exhibition.” Winners will also receive prizes including art supplies.

Beyond the competition, Antigua and Barbuda Art Week 2025 will feature art demonstrations with local artist Gilly Gobinet, a sustainable art workshop with Good Humans 268 Inc., open gallery events, and an Art and Culture Bus Tour for students on November 28.

The Tourism Authority extended thanks to FLOW for its ongoing support of the competition and youth development initiatives.
